Abstract

 Islamic education has a very important role in shaping the personality of the nation's children who are dignified and have noble morals. The development of Islamic education in Indonesia cannot be separated from the role of scholars who have contributed to disseminating, building, and developing Islamic education. Many scholars spread across various regions in Indonesia have made major contributions to the advancement of Islamic education. One of the scholars who has a significant role in Islamic education, especially in Java, is Sheikh Abdul Kahfi Al-Hasani. He played a significant role in the spread of Islamic education in Kebumen. Sheikh Abdul Kahfi Al-Hasani came from the Middle East, specifically Hadhramaut, Yemen. Approximately five centuries ago, he came to Indonesia at the behest of his teacher and first arrived at Karang Bolong Beach, located in Buayan District, Kebumen Regency. This study aims to analyze the contribution of Sheikh Abdul Kahfi Al-Hasani in the development of Islamic education in Kebumen as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in Sheikh Abdul Kahfi Al-Hasani's journey in spreading Islamic education in Kebumen. The type of research used in this study is field research using a qualitative approach, an approach that allows researchers to observe specifically using observation methods, interviews, and documentation as a form of data collection. The results of the study indicate that Sheikh Abdul Kahfi Al-Hasani made a significant contribution to the development of Islamic education through the establishment of Islamic boarding schools, a yellow book-based learning system, and the ongoing development of ulama. His influence was felt not only locally but also in scientific networks outside Kebumen. The conclusion of this study confirms that his role in Islamic education in Kebumen was very significant and left an intellectual legacy that still endures to this day.
