Abstract

The development of emotional intelligence, which includesself-awareness, self-control, and empathy, is a crucial aspect ofshaping students' noble character amid the challenges of the times. Therefore, this research is very important to examine andoptimize the strategic role of Islamic Education Teachers (PAI) as role modelsand key facilitators in integrating spiritual values into theemotional dimension of students. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in developing students’ emotional intelligence through a literature review approach. Emotional intelligence, which includes self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills, is an essential aspect of shaping students’ character and moral values. PAI teachers hold a strategic position as educators, mentors, role models, and facilitators in instilling Islamic values relevant to emotional intelligence development. The findings indicate that emotional intelligence can be enhanced through teachers’ moral example, the integration of emotional values into PAI lessons, guiding students in managing emotional conflicts in an Islamic way, and creating a supportive, empathetic, and respectful learning environment. Reflective-contextual learning strategies are considered effective because they connect PAI materials with students’ real-life experiences, making the learning process more meaningful and applicable. However, several challenges remain, including teachers’ limited competence, students’ readiness, and institutional support. Therefore, strengthening PAI teachers’ competencies and fostering synergy between schools and families are crucial steps in comprehensively developing students’ emotional intelligence.
