Abstract

The background of this study is that several single parents were found in Jatirokeh Village, who had difficulties in carrying out their dual roles, namely earning a living for their family's needs and taking care of their children. Single parents must struggle harder to meet the needs of their families and they must also be able to divide their time to educate their children, so that their children can grow and develop properly. And every single parent must have their own way of overcoming the problems faced both from the economy and how to educate their children. As for from a positive legal perspective, Indonesia's fulfillment of maintenance and childcare is an obligation that must be done by parents according to the limits of their abilities. The purpose of this study is to find out how efforts are made by single parents in meeting family needs and child care in Jatirokeh Village, Songgom District, Brebes Regency in the perspective of positive Indonesian law. The type of research used is qualitative, namely field research, where the author goes directly to the field to conduct research on the object related to the problem discussed. The data collection was obtained by observation, interviews, and documentation. The data sources of this study are primary data and secondary data.  The results of this study conclude about the efforts made by single parents in meeting family needs and child parenting in the perspective of positive Indonesian law. The efforts made by single parents of Jatirokeh Village are by trading, farming, and debting both to neighbors and to savings and loan corporations to meet their needs and the parenting style carried out is to send their children to the Upper High School level, even though there are some single parents who are not able to achieve this.
